TELL THEM NO! - FY26 House Appropriations Bill Will Eliminate Language Education Programs

The House Appropriations Committee is poised to approve massive cuts to critical language education programs in its Fiscal Year 2026 Labor HHS Education spending bill. It proposes to cut $12 billion from the Department of Education that would be partially paid for by painful program eliminations and steep funding cuts. Among the proposed casualties would be: ESEA Title III English Language Acquisition, ESEA Title II-A, Title II-A Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants, and HEA Title VI and Fulbright Hays, all of which would be completely eliminated.

Fortunately, we have a little time to demonstrate our opposition to this bill. While the House Appropriations Committee will move this bill rapidly through the Committee, it may be a week or two before it reaches the House floor.

Additionally, we have a better option to support: the far more moderate Senate Appropriations Committee-passed version of this spending bill, which protects all three of these programs.

Please join JNCL-NCLIS in voicing opposition to these damaging language education cuts by sending an email to your House members right now. Your voices matter and carry weight!
